Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company,, 1939. First edition, first printing. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Helen & Ed Case, in recollection of the weeks they helped to make so pleasant in Chapala. Red Warren, August 6, 1941. Chapala." Warren and his wife Cinina moved to Chapala for a few months in the summer of 1941, two years after the publication of this novel. Octavo. Original blue-green cloth, titles to front board and spine in red. With dust jacket. Spine and board edges faded, some spots to cloth, internally clean. A very good copy in the toned jacket with professional repairs along spine and front fold, some shallow chips and nicks to extremities.
