About This Item

UK,8vo paperback,Uncorrected Advance Proof,1st edn. [Publication date September,1994. Complete number line 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2. Often of limited availability, the text of a forthcoming book,is printed and bound in softcovers for use by the author, editors, proofreaders and some favoured reviewers. For undecorated printed wraps, with minimal publication data imprinted - the produced/released number of copies would almost certainly be less than 500,and most probably would tend to be around 200 copies. For glossy pictorial illustrated wrappers, produced numbers are often higher than 200,but either have a scarcity to them.Often errors or earlier versions of text appear in these proofs.Versions where the text has changed considerably are obviously considered more desirable by their nature.] NFINE. Wrapped+protected and stored from day of distribution,so NO owner inscrptn and NO reading creases to spine or to any pages' corners.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,wrap-around,matt white background with publisher's grey colophon design illustration across the whole covers with an upright, black double-lined bordered rectangle to front cover with capitalised, black-lettered title and author name within it along with capitalised, black lettered UNCORRECTED ADVANCE PROOF legend and disclaimers at it's top edge, and book's black-lettered information of size, pagination, publication date, provisional price, ISBN and publisher's name to to lower edge of front's panel.A flat spine with with a vertical wrinkling crease towards later signatures at rear of book - due(?) to the production technique of 'perfect binding'; i.e. the wrappers are glued to the signatures,as in all modern paperbacks.Spine with similarly coloured+lettered title+author name as the front's and capitalised,black-lettered PROOF to foot of same, rear cover with black, double-line bordered horizontal rectangle with black-lettered synopsis and publisher's blurb on the author and his other titles. Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no nicks, tears or splits present.Top+ fore- edges bright, crisp and clean without ageing/toning,foxing/spotting or other blemish; contents bright and tight - virtually pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners. UK,8vo paperback,Uncorrected Advance Proof,1st edn,3-325pp [paginated] includes 24 chapters divided into 3 sections: Tim, Isabel and James; plus [unpaginated] blank with publisher's colophon to foot as unnamed half-title page,a title page individual section separator pages and to the rear,6pp blanks. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional and particularly internally,is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 30 year-old age and nature, i.e an ephemeral paperback Proof. It really is still an exceptional, exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and the lack of book's physical detracting faults commonly found in a decades old paperback. Written under the psuedonym Barbara Vine - the name deriving from her own middle name and her great grandmother's maiden name.A total of 14 novels written under this pseudonym. Set in Alaska and Suffolk, this story involves a brother (Ivo) and sister (Isabel),each of whom has a sexual relationship with Tim,and is written in three first-person narrations, the first and longest of which is the memoir-confession of Tim Cornish.Tim has been living with and supported by Ivo,but, since Ivo's recent declaration of love,Tim has tired of him. Ashore in Juneau while Ivo is elsewhere,Tim meets Isabel,an unhappily married, somewhat older woman, with whom Tim immediately falls in love, and he promises to meet her in Seattle after breaking up with Ivo (who he pretends is a woman). When Ivo is left for dead on a remote arctic island, the way seems clear for Tim and Isabel. Isabel's own brief memoir,in the form of a letter of sorts to Ivo,and a concluding letter to his wife by a schoolboy friend of Tim's who becomes Tim's solicitor, complete the book, which explores questions of sexual identity, fidelity, and guilt. But nothing quite plays itself out in the way one might expect. Please contact seller, for correct shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas customers - BEFORE ordering through the order page! N.B.
