Privately Printed, 1868. First Edition. Softcover. Good. A Lecture delivered in the Town Hall, Cambridge on March 30, 1868. Printed in Ayr. pp. 60. Stitched booklet, (9" x 5-1/2"), bright emerald green printed wraps, printed title to cover. Wraps darkened and discoloured to margins, more so to front cover with some light spotting, light edgewear. Pages uncut to top edges and hence internally fine. Macmillan was the co-founder of the publishing house of Macmillan; he and his brother had initially established a business as a bookshop in Cambridge. An interesting, far ranging disquisition on contemporary American society, social mores, ethics, abolition, commerce, religion, politics and science based on Macmillan's frequent visits. SCARCE in this original edition.
