About This Item

Five-Volume Amber First Chronicles First Edition Set, except for Nine Princes which is a second edition issued by a small press in a limited run. Two books are signed by Zelazny!

Nine Princes in Amber by Roger Zelazny (author of Lord of Light) Hardcover Second Edition - First Printing Boston: Gregg Press, 1979. Wrap-around dust jacket artwork, a frontispiece plate, and three additional b&w plates by Freff. The only edition of the first Chronicles of Amber illustrated. (true first edition Doubleday, 1970) Black boards in a two color blue and black wrap-around artwork jacket. Copyright page with 1970 and states "First Printing, 1979" Fine in Fine- Dust Jacket with just a bit of rubbing at corners and extremities, but still an exceptionally nice copy. In my opinion the best edition of this book, and more difficult to find than the Doubleday first edition. Probably issued in only 500 to 1000 copies at most.

Note on Edition: Many of the original first printing copies of Nine Princes in Amber issued by Doubleday US in 1970 were destroyed in a fire/flood at one of Doubleday's warehouses. By some estimates about half of the original run were destroyed. Doubleday neglected to enact a second printing, making the surviving copies relatively rare. Most were sent to libraries. Near Fine/Near Fine (or better copies) can run $2000+. As of this writing, one seller has a signed copy for $6500. The Gregg Press edition may have been published as a kind of makeup, although Gregg did not publish any of the other Amber titles.

The Guns of Avalon Hardcover First Edition - First Printing New York: Doubleday, 1972. $5.95 cover price. States "First Edition" on the copyright page. Jacket artwork by Emanuel Schongut. SIGNED by Zelazny in blue on the title page. Near Fine+ in Near Fine+ Jacket. Book itself is generally clean and appears unread, some remnants of possible bookplates on the end-papers, and a written price of 25 cents on the front end-paper. The jacket has the typical nicks and rubs which plague these books because of the low-quality materials. Still a very presentable above-average copy, and even more so signed. Some sellers are asking $1000+ for this book unsigned.

The Sign of the Unicorn Hardcover First Edition - First Printing New York: Doubleday, 1973. Jacket artwork by Margo Herr. $5.95 cover price. States "First Edition" on the copyright page. Fine in Fine- Dust Jacket. Book itself is clean, corners straight, jacket again has the typical nicks and rubs which plague these books.

The Hand of Oberon Hardcover First Edition - First Printing New York: Doubleday, 1976. $5.95 cover price. States "First Edition" on the copyright page. Fine in Fine- Dust Jacket. Book itself is clean, near perfect, corners straight, jacket again has the typical nicks and rubs which plague these books.

The Courts of Chaos Hardcover First Edition - First Printing New York: Doubleday, 1976. $7.95 cover price. States "First Edition" on the copyright page. SIGNED/inscribed by Zelazny on the title page. Fine in Fine Dust Jacket, a nearly perfect copy save a hint of a transparent blemish on the right-side of the text block. Book itself is clean, near perfect, corners straight, jacket is in the best condition of the set.

NOTE: The pictures are of the actual book for sale, not stock photos.

ALSO: All books with dust jackets come with dust jacket covers.
