Trace foxing to the thin page edges; else near fine in printed wrappers in the very good original glassine, a little foxed at the rear panel, darkened at the spine, lightly edgeworn.. First Edition. Small octavo. 2500 copies printed. A fine presentation copy, SIGNED by Ruscha and inscribed: "To Penelope / Poquito / Love - / Ed". Penelope is Penny Little, Ruscha's friend, and the girlfriend of Billy Al Bengston. 10 color photographs of forlorn swimming pools, most in Southern Californian apartment complexes. The final image is of broken glass. (Open Book 198-199).

A very good copy in wrappers from the library of the Visual Studies Workshop with their sticker to the front panel but otherwise free of marks. Lacking the glassine. Despite the sticker a solid copy of this terrific artist book.

n.p. [Los Angeles]: (Edward Ruscha), 1976. Near fine.. Signed second edition of Ruscha's first book using color photographs, a series on water artificially contained and explosively freed. Nine blue Las Vegas swimming pools, separated by bright white blank leaves, and one smashed glass with water droplets running free of their artificial enclosure. On his choice of subject matter, Ruscha has explained: "I like waking up in the morning and saying, 'Well, I guess it's swimming pools today'" (quoted in Phillpot). 7'' x 5.5''. Original printed white wrappers. Printed by G.R. Huttner Lithography. Edition of 2000 unnumbered copies. [64] pages, of which 52 are blank. Signed by Ruscha in pencil on front free endpaper. PROVENANCE: From the collection of longtime MIT Press editor Roger Conover, who published several books by and about Ruscha. Minor edgewear, very faint soil to wrappers.
