Very good, 1st edition, unclipped d/j in protective sleeve (a little bumping and some bleeding from spine); original blue boards clean, gilt spine titling bright; faint bleeding from jacket to gutter, but text unaffected; text block firm, pages unmarked a. 12mo (190 x 130 / 7_"" x 5""). Eight of the stories originally appeared in an earlier collection (1935) entitled The Basement Room. Among those new to this collection are ""A Drive in the Country,"" ""The Lottery Ticket,"" and ""The Other Side of the Border,"" the latter two of which were excised from later collections.
