About This Item

Paris: Aux Édition Émile-Paul Fréres, 1925. Limited edition. Issued in 1925, a year after the first edition, this is one of only 25 produced in large format, on Hollande. This copy is not numbered to the colophon. Now bound in beautiful three quarter red morocco binding, with raised bands and gilt titles to spine. Original soft covers and spine conserved inside, with also a smaller version. Slightly confusingly, the original (1924) cover is also bound in, which suggests that this limited edition was based on the same proofs with just an additional title. A biography of Mme de Lanclos, courtesan, author, patron of the arts, who knew many of the leading intellectual and society figures in 17th century France. vii, 244, [2] pp. Plates in b/w and colour, with captioned tissue guards. In good clean condition, although there is some darkening / offsetting to the larger sheets. OCLC Number / Unique Identifier: 461733484. [XIV], 1-244, [ii] pages. 315 by 245mm (12½ by 9¾ inches). . [XIV], 1-244, [ii] pages. 315 x 245 mm
