About This Item
The Dial Press, 1967. Trade Paperback. 152 pages. Unrevised proofs of the adaptation of Mailer's third novel. The play opened off-Broadway in January 1967. Mailer continued to revise the play for the rest of his life, sometimes recruiting others including Joan Didion and her husband John Gregory Dunne. A near fine copy in salmon-colored wrappers (paperback) with white plastic comb binding. White printed sticker seal on bottom edge of both covers broken. Inscribed to noted book collector Don Kaufmann: 'I wish you could have seen it. Norman Mailer.' Kaufmann published one of the first critical studies of Mailer, Norman Mailer: The Countdown (The First Twenty Years). A very scarce Mailer item.
