Trade Paperback in Very Good Condition. b/w wood engravings throughout. Facsimile reprint of the 1874 guide to Northern California, Oregon, and the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii), with a side-trip through Washington territory to Victoria B.C. describing these lands as they were one hundred years ago. Pictorial brick red illustrated hinged wrappers, illus by Nancy Austin. Clean and unmarked with light wear to edges; tight and solid glued binding; smudge on upper corner of endpaper, otherwise pages completely clean, no markings, no creases. Contents include such topics as Maui and sugar culture; cattle and sheep on Kauai; Hawaiian manners and customs; Leper asylum on Molokai; agriculture valleys, dairies, forests, fruit farms, wine; sheep-grazing, redwood forests, sawmills, etc. in Northern California; Chinese as laborers; The Farallon Islands; the Columbia River; Puget Sound; and more.
