"Indian art of the Northwest coast of North America is part of an ancient cultural tradition which dates back at least four thousand years according to archaeological evidence discovered over the past decade. This art is only now being internationally acclaimed by experts of similar importance to the artistic heritage of mankind as the arts of ancient Egypt and China. Its importance is due in large measure to the fact that it combines a high degree of refinement, worked out by hundreds of generations of artists, with a directness of expression of essential values of the culture that created it. In essence, Northwest Coast art expresses the relationship of man to the animals and other living things which make up his universe......" ---- from the Foreword by George F. MacDonald (SIGNED FIRST EDITION).
