Second edition. This second edition, issued less than a year late and much larger, includes over 200 pages of new material, as well as updating a large portion of the material in the original edition. Illustrated with reproductions of advertisements. The first section - "quackery" - starts out with advertising specialists and goes on to cancer, consumption, drunkenness and obesity cures. The section on nostrums focuses on specific products, with their claims, a list of what they actually contain, and in some cases reports of negative - even fatal - side effects. Index. 708 pp.
