1698 1ed Liquor Alcohol Fermentation Tauvry Medicine Disease Cures WINE Beer

One of the best and most thorough medical treatises on practical uses and healing properties of wine, beer, and fermented liquors. Daniel Tauvry was a relatively unknown French physician, even though he published a number of relevant medical treatises. Description:
1709 Saint Francis Assisi Monastic Rule of Penance Lives of SAINTS + Piety RARE

"The deeds you do may be the only sermon some persons will hear today."
― Francis of Assisi

In the 13th-century, devout followers of Saint Francis of Assisi formed the Third Order of Saint Francis. This order closely followed the preachings and examples set by Saint Francis who corresponded with these groups through letter. These letters ultimately developed into what would become the rules for penance in the Third Order.

This early 18th-century account of Third Order of Penance was collected and translated into French by Claude Frassen who included biographical sketches of the lives of saints of the Order along with prayers and liturgical texts. It also contains a printing of "Exercises of Piety" from 1703.

1927 WILLIAM BLAKE Songs EXPERIENCE Innocence Poetry Collection ART Illustrated

"Songs of Experience" is a 1794 collection of 26 poems by William Blake, the counterpart to his "Songs of Innocence." The work explores darker themes of human life such as poverty, exploitation, and social corruption, reflecting Blake's critiques of industrialization and the Church. Famous poems like "The Tyger" and "London" employ complex symbolism and allegory, making the collection a profound exploration of human despair and potential redemption.

London: Printed for D. Midwinter, and Tho. Leigh, at the Rose and Crown in St. Paul's Church-yard, 1701. First English Edition. Full Leather. Good binding. First English Edition of Daniel Tauvry's New Rational Anatomy, translated from the third French edition. Tauvry was a Member of the College of Physicians at Paris, until his death in 1701. Complete with frontispiece and 21 additional numbered plates. [8], 144, 161-301, [9] pp. Leaves K7 and K8 appear to be stubbed in cancels, with rather incorrect pagination. Despite the jump in pagination between pp. 144 and 161 (K8v and L1r), the beginning of Part 2, the text appears complete. Dampstaining and rippling to the text. Plate 18 has a 7 cm closed tear extending from the bottom edge. Japanese tissue repair to the joints, near the head of the spine. Hinges cracked but holding well. Beginning of separation at the bottom of the joints. Front board bowed at the edges. Full calf, overly mottled in the center panels of the boards, with blindstamped… Read More
