London: George Routledge and Sons Limited, Broadway, Ludgate Hill, n.d., 1900. 16 volumes, 8vo, contemporary half green morocco over marbled paper-covered boards, all edges marbled, marbled endpapers; engraved portrait of Ainsworth in the first volume, and with 292 engraved illustrations throughout by George Cruikshank, H. K. Browne (Phiz), John Gilbert, Tony Johannot, John Franklin, plus wood engravings in the text by W. Alfred Delamotte, and others; lightly scuffed, but generally a very good, sound set containing the original illustrations as they first appeared in Ainsworth's novels. With the bookplates of H. W. Kearns, Baxenden House, Accrington. Likely a reprint of the 1876 Collected Works in 16 volumes. Other collected editions appeared in 1878-80 (31 volumes), and 1923 (12 volumes). See NCBEL III, 911: "There is no complete edition of Ainsworth's writings."
