A complete twenty four volume set of the novels and tales of renowned realist writer Henry James, with frontispieces to each volume. Henry James was an American-British author who is regarded as one of the greatest novelists of the English language and is considered a key transitional figure between literary realism and literary modernism. Henry James is best known for his novels that deal with the social interplay between émigré Americans, English and Europeans. This is a complete twenty four volume set of the novels and tales of this extraordinary writer and is part of the Macmillan New York edition and includes his works The Turn of the Screw, A Portrait of a Lady and The Ambassadors. Volume I contains Roderick Hudson, volume II contains The American, volume III consists of The Portrait of a Lady I, volume IV contains The Portrait of a Lady II, volume V consists of The Princess of Casamassima I, volume VI contains The Princess of Casamassima II, volume VII contains The Tragic Muse I, volume VIII contains The Tragic Muse II, volume IX consists of The Awkward Age, volume X consists of The Spoils of Poynton, A London Life and The Chaperon. Volume XI contains What Maisie Knew, In the Cage and The Pupil, volume XII contains The Aspern Papers, The Turn of the Screw, The Liar and The two Faces, volume XIII contains The Reverberator, Madame de Mauves, A Passionate Pilgrim and Other Tales. These were all published in 1908. Volume XV contains The Lesson of the Master, The Death of the Lion, The Next time and Other Tales, volume XVI contains The Author of Beltraffio, The Middle Years, Greville Fane and Other Tales, volume XVII contains The Altar of the Dead, The Beast in the Jungle etc, volume XIX contains The Wings of the Dove I and volume XX contains The Wings of the Dove II. Volumes XXI and XXII contains The Ambassadors and Volumes XXIII abd XXIV contains The Golden Bowl. These were all published in 1909. Each volume has a tissue-guarded photogravure frontispiece. In the publisher's original uniform full cloth binding, with intricate gilt detail to the spine. Externally, very smart with light bumping to some of the tails of the spines. Front hinges starting on volumes ix, vii, v, ii, xvii. Internally, all are firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with some scattered spots to some pages. Very Good
