Caracas, Venezuela: Edicions de la Presidencia de la Republica, 1986-1988. Limited edition.. A fine set in slightly edge-worn dust jackets.. This is a 10-volume compilation of all the writings by the Prussian-Venezuelan naturalist Adolf Ernst. These articles were published in German, English and Spanish in journals from around the world. This commemorative edition was limited to 1000 copies published by the Venezuelan government in 1986-1988 honoring Adolfo Ernst. The 10-volume opus was not released commercially but given only on a complimentary basis to selected individuals and distributed primarily in Venezuela. Very few copies are in private or institutional hands outside of Venezuela. The contents of the set follow: Tomo I: Botanica 1; Tomo II: Botanica 2; Tomo III: La Exposicion Nacional de Venezuela en 1883 1; Tomo IV: La Exposicion Nacional de Venezuela en 1883 2; Tomo V: Zoologia; Tomo VI: Antropologia; Tomo VII: Ciencias de la Tierra; Tomo VIII: Exposiciones Venezolanas en el Exterior; Tomo IX: Miscelanea; Tomo X: Indices. The collation of the ten volumes are as follows: pp. (I): lxiv, 601, 5 (index), portrait of Adolfo Ernst in early years; (II): pp. xii, 695, 6 (index), portrait of Adolfo Ernst in later years, some botanical illustrations; (III): pp. x, 702, 5 (index), 5 large folding illustrations; (IV): pp. vi, 485, 2 (index); (V): pp. xiv, 363, 4 (index); (VI): pp. x, 838, 6 (index), some text-figures; (VII): pp. xiii, 688, 8 (index), 1 full page map; (VIII): pp. xiv, 562, 2 (index), full page portrait of Adolfo Ernst; (IX): pp. ix, 761, 9 (index), reproduction of handwritten letter to Adolfo Ernst; (X): pp. viii, 386, 1. Publisher's original dark green cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine and front cover, original black dust jacket, lettered in white on the spines and in blue, green, yellow or orange on the front covers, thick lg 8vo. From the private collection of Romero-Mayayo with his circular blind-stamp on the upper outer corner of the title page and his small ink stamp on the top page edge.
