London: Sold at No. 13, Castle-Street, London. 1786. 1st ed., quarto, later half leather binding with marbled sides, raised bands, gilt ttle label, pages edges marbled, pp (iv), vi, 225. Complete with 18 engraved plates. Inscribed "From the Author". Ownership signature (W. Sandford). Foxing to the edges of some plates, mainly the plate facing p. 139. Overall very clean and in very good condition. First edition of important early work by John Hunter, the celebrated surgeon and scientist who helped modernise medicine, and particularly the study of anatomy. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1767, and the Hunterian Museum is named after him. 1st Edition.
