Pp. xx+392+xxviii+628(last colophon), 18 plates including 7 maps or charts (all but one of which are coloured and 2 of which are double page lithographs with coloured highlights), text figures, appendices, indices; med. 8vo; rebound in modern qr. calf, the spines lettered and decorated in gilt between raised bands, marbled papered boards; uncut; later endpapers; library blind stamp on title page and ink number stamp on fore-edges and at foot of dedication page both volumes, a few pages slightly creased (including the plate opposite p. 152 in Volume I), a couple of short edge splits or chips, a little light soiling; Macmillan, London, 1903-1906. Both first editions. *The second volume is a pioneering study of the movement of plant seeds across the Pacific.
