About This Item

London: Longman, Hurst, Rees and Orme, 1805. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. Hardback. A good copy in paper-covered boards with light blue cloth spine. Some wear and tear to spine edges but cords holding. No title-piece. Old ownership inscription on title page but a very good copy internally. Pp.vii,223,lvi. The book has been described as "an excellent account of the conditions of the Highlands that led to the clearances and emigration." Selkirk was anxious that emigrating Highlanders should go to British colonies and he bought land in North America, including on Prince Edward Island, where he arranged for Highlanders to be settled. Photographs available on request.
