About This Item
PARIS : CHEZ DEMONVILLE BELIN MANDAR, 1823. All'interno: Pensieri, ristretto dei sermoni, Avvento, Esortazioni, Ritratto, Quaresima ecc... In discrete condizioni. In 8. Dim. 22x14 cm. Pp. XL+656, 777+(3), 644. Edition of 1823 of this collection of works by the Father Louis Bourdaloue (1632-1704). Bourdaloue, a french jesuit, was famous for the eloquence of his sermons, people said he speeched with closed eyes and with magistral theatrality. He was a speecher in the Court of Louis XIV. His name seems derivated from a tool used during 1600, a chamber pot connected with the long duration of its speeches that devoted incontinents used under their skirts in order to not lose neither a minute of his speeches. The work was made up of five volumes, unfortunately we only have the first three tomes: thoughts, resuming of sermons, Advent, esortations, Portrait, Eastern period ecc... In fair conditions. Editorial cover in fair general conditions slightly worn in the edges and spine. Front plate of the first tome is almost detached and back plate is missing. Binding in fair conditions with cracks. Inside pages are in good conditions with occasional foxings. Pages from 657 of the first tome are missing. In 8. Dim. 22x14 cm. Pp. XL+656, 777+(3), 644.
