About This Item

Paris: Charpentier, Librairie-Éditeur, 1867. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. A particularly sturdy and attractive, tightly bound, internally clean set of nine hardcover volumes bound in short octavo format, with scuffed tips and edges, umber tourniquet-style marbled paper over boards and similar endpapers; not ex-library, with neither highlighting nor underlining. Quarter-bound in umber Morocco leather with five raised spine bands and gilt lettering to each spine.Six of the nine volumes retain their bound-in light green silk-linen bookmarks. Some moderate wear to leather of joints and raised spine bands. Spines are a bit faded and lightly scratched here and there, but the gilt lettering remains bright and distinct. Both joints and hinges feel solid bordering on stiff, suggesting little use. One Frenchmarginal notation in contemporary ink on one of the plays. Textblocks trimmed, though with a couple preliminary or final publisher's leaves unopened. Minimal foxing, even less toning. The third volume has a numerical label—145—on the front panel. Volume I 356 pp.; Volume II: 297 pp.; Volume III: 455 pp.; Volume IV 428 pp.; Volume V: 372 pp.; Volume VI: 372 pp.; Volume VII; 353 pp.; Volume VIII: 308 pp.; Volume IX: 248 pp. Entirely in French. A Wikipedia entry devoted to Alfred Louis Charles de Musset-Pathay (10 December 1810 – 2 May 1857) "was a French dramatist, poet, and novelist" and best known for "the autobiographical novel La Confession d'un enfant du siècle (The Confession of a Child of the Century)."Musset's "complete" works were published in several configurations byCharpentier, including 8-, 9-, 10- and 11-volume arrangements of largely thesame material. This is the complete 9-volume edition, not a defectiveassortment from the 10- or 11- volume sets.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
