This is an official publication of the Colorado Territorial Board of Immigration, produced as part of their effort "to present facts concerning Colorado as an attractive and desirable locality for those seeking homes in the Great West; to supply immigrants with full and authoritative information, as well as to aid and facilitate their journey hither." A complete guide is offered for prospective settlers including summaries of land laws, climate, industry, agriculture, the railway system, etc. Of note is a section on the Homestead and Preemption Acts, which encouraged western settlement by granting eligible adult heads of household up to 160 acres of public land on the condition that they live on and cultivate the land, including the full text of the 1862 Homestead Act and a table of Homestead Fees.
