Heritage Press, New York, no date (but aftr 1943 when first published by the Limited Editions Club); tall 8vo, 170 x 260mm; pp xxxi, 224; decorated paper covered boards, red cloth, spine gilt; with 16 handsome wash illustrations of locations or incidents in the writing, some full page with others in the tex and with decorative head pieces to each storyt; there is no dustwrapper as such but the book is in a plain, black slipcase; spine title dulled but otherwise in very good condition throughout. ... ... Cable was from New Orleans, a good friend of Mark Twain, and considered a foremost writer of the US South. In his work, principally portraying Creole life in Lousiana but including also essays, he encouraged racial equality and opposed racial separation laws, being driven from New Orleans in consequence, moving first for some 30 years to Massachusetts and finally to Florida.
