About This Item

London: Ackermann, 1801. Printed broadside with large hand-colored etching by Thomas Rowlandson after Woodward; printed text beneath by Woodward. 1 vols. Folio (11 x 18 in.). Mounted to stiff sheet. Rowlandson, Thomas. Printed broadside with large hand-colored etching by Thomas Rowlandson after Woodward; printed text beneath by Woodward. 1 vols. Folio (11 x 18 in.). Humorous Rowlandson Broadside. The initial Prayer in the series of broadsides Woodward & Rowlandson created in 1801 (17 in all) The letterpress, printed by Sprague of Bow St., was by Woodward who also usually constributed the drawing for Rowlandson to etch. The latter's style is indelibly stamped on these rollicking prints. Here, the old maid supplicates the goddess Diana to 'let me be not too vain of my beauty." Fine example early Rowlandson. Grego II, p. 30
