New York, New York, U.S.A.: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1942. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. One of a trilogy of books by this author about the early days of America, this one focused on the Southern states & the institutions there (churches, meeting houses, schools, public buildings, private houses) which contributed to the rise of a unique civilization. In 364 pages with Index + 56 glossy black-and-white plates throughout text. A FIRST EDITION, first printing ("A") from 1942, this hardcover 8vo has green cloth over boards lettered in somewhat faded gilt to front & spine. Condition is VG: very clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Pages slightly off white with tanning to edges, but completely unmarked save for former owner's name to title page in faded pen, some pencil erasures to front endpapers. Page 177-178 has old cello tape holding together a tear in center. All endpapers show offsetting. Mild spotting to outside top page edges. Mild rubbing to extremities, heavier to both ends of spine & corners, some of which are bumped, some cloth fraying. NO DJ.
