About This Item

New York: James Pott and Co., 1906. Leather. Good Only. 8" by 5.5". Unamed. A history of the chateaux of Old Touraine from Theodore Andrea Cook. Illustrated throughout with several plates. Bookplate of Miriam Williams Roberts to front pastedowns. Theodore Cook's legacy from his artist mother was an early introduction to the world of paintings, sculpture and architecture. This inspired him to travel particularly in Europe and to publish authoritarian works on Old Provence, Twenty-five Great Houses of France, Leonardo da Vinci and sculpture among many others, some of which were illustrated by his mother. Complete in two volumes. In half-morocco bindings with marbled boards. Externally, sound, though one board is missing, one is detached, and another is held by the cords only. The backstrip to the first volume is detached, and has some loss. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, and generally clean, with just a few marks. Good Only
