Almost all the conferences and workshops held in Monash’s Prato Centre have thus far been concerned with topics which are beyond the immediate issues of Prato’s own local community. This volume, however, considers in an extremely helpful and empirical approach a major feature of the population composition of the city of Prato – the presence of a large Chinese community, centered on the textile industry and living and working outside the ancient and great surrounding walls of medieval Prato.
