About This Item

1912. WORSHAM, John H[enry]. One of Jackson's Foot Cavalry: His Experience and What He Saw During the War 1861-1865. New York: The Neale Publishing Company, 1912. 1st ed. 353 pp. Illus. Orig. cloth. Very good. HOWES W-680. "An exceptionally good Confederate memoir, distinguished by humor and intelligence, and decidedly attuned to affairs at the level of the private soldier. Worsham was with the 21st Virginia in the 1861 campaign in western Virginia, then fought with Jackson in the Shenadoah Valley. He saw most of the actions of the Army of Northern Virginia and skillfully carries his readers with him to the scenes. An original muster roll of Co. F, 21st Virginia from the early days of the war is reproduced and an appendix contains a composite roster of the unit." Krick 572. A very good copy complete with all 10 plates. In a morocco backed cloth slipcase.
