The images in 'Post Partum' were shot at The Children's Hospital of New York. Despite the fact that medical practice has advanced enormously since those times, medieval tools are still in use. Birth tools are utilized to intervene in a natural process, to help bring a new life into the world. The tools at a post-mortem are a means of establishing or confirming the cause of death, they are used after a life has ended. Born in England, Steve Pyke has been working as a staff photographer for The New Yorker Magazine since 2005.
