Pages have slight foxing, tanning and minor thumbing. Pencil inscriptions to front pastedown. Bookseller's sticker to front pastedown. A few pages quite loose. A few dog-eared corners. Boards have some edge wear, with pronounced bumping and fraying to corners, while spine ends are crushed and frayed. Rather scratched, rubbed and marked overall. Heavy splits to joints. Heavy bending and creasing to rear board. Gilt is bright.

This selection are intended to be a companion to the traveller, to give one a variety of matters to read whilst on a journey. The preface states 'This little book aims at nothing but providing companionship on the road for city-dwellers who make holiday, It has no claims to completeness of any kind'. It provides 'lazy reading for the time to rest, with perhaps a phrase or two for the feet to step to and the mind to brood on when the rest is over. 'Rebound in a lovely quarter morocco binding. Contains passages by many well known authors such as Shakespeare and Tennyson and Byron. Compiled by E. V Lucas, an essayist, poet and short story writer. Lucas was a large contributor for the magazine Punch and worked for them from 1904 to his death. Condition: In a quarter crushed morocco binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, lovely condition with minor shelfwear to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned due to paper used. A mark to the verso of front endpaper, otherwise very clean throughout. Overall: FINE..
