Full title: The Optical Performance of the Light Microscope, parts 1 and 2 : Geometrical Optical Aspects of Image Formation and Physical Aspects of Image Formation (Volumes 14 and 15 in the Microscope Series). Original paper boards with gold lettering. Volume 1 original light green paper boards, with minor wear at the extremities. Chapters include refraction and reflection of light, formation of images by lenses, image formation by the microscope, the illumination system, optical defects of images and their correction, performace characteristics of objectives oculars and condensors, and conclusion and index. Part 2 is in the original paper covers boards, with spine slanted, and several shallow puncture marks in the front cover (sharp object punched hole in the cover, doesn't extend to the inside of the book). Also several minor soiled spots. Chapters include the Physical Nature of Light, Image formation of self-luminous objects, image formation of non-self-luminous objects: unidirectional illumination, image formation of non-self-luminous objects: multidirectional illumination, resolving power and limit of useful magnification, using the microscope to the limit of its capacity, conclusion and index. Vol 1, 102 pages plus advertisements, published 1972 (first edition), Vol 2, 110 pages, published 1974 originally (this is a 1980 reprint). Hard Cover.
