First published in 1862 with derivation of Christian names such as: Regina (queen like), Sophia (wisdom), Victor (a conqueror). In Scotland whoever joined a clan such as Anderson, Wilson, MacNeil etc. no matter what his descent, assumed the surname of his chief as an act of loyalty.
