8” x 10”, 1930s. Original black & white photograph of the beautiful actress Luise Rainer. In the photo Miss Rainer is wearing a white blouse, with short hair. Fine. On the verso an attached typed note from the studio introduces her to the film community: “NEW STAR...Unlike any established Hollywood celebrity is Luise Rainer, the Viennese sensation now under contract to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Youthful, elfin and of a rare beauty, Miss Rainer has won the plaudits of European critics and audiences for brilliant performances in mature plays. Her arrival in Hollywood has been hailed as a major event of the new year. Preparations are under way for her camera debut.” Miss Rainer won back-to-back Best Actress in a Leading Role Oscars for her work in The Great Ziegfeld (1936) and The Good Earth (1937). Some of her other films include Escapade, The Emperor's Candlesticks, Big City, The Toy Wife, and The Great Waltz.
