Some minor spots of red offsetting to lower edge of upper wrapper, otherwise very near fine. An unspecified but substantially preproduction draft of Hecht's adaptation of Hemingway's novel of the Great War. It was the novel's second screen adaptation to reach production. [Original color studio lobby card for:] MURDER, MY SWEET
by [Chandler, Raymond (sourcework)]
- Used
Los Angeles: RKO Radio Pictures, 1944.. Original 11 x 14" color studio lobby card. A bit of mild dusting and slight creasing to margins, 2 cm closed tear at top edge mended on verso, some spotting to verso along top edge and small tab of old masking tape at one verso edge; still, a very good, bright example. A striking example of the suitably atmospheric lobby cards promoting this adaptation of Chandler's FAREWELL, MY LOVELY, based on a screenplay by John Paxton, directed by Edward Dmytryk. The release starred Dick Powell, Claire Trevor, Anne Shirley, and Mike Mazurki, among others. The present title was utilized for the release in the US in an attempt to create a distance between "the New Dick Powell!" in this role, and his audience association with more saccharine romantic vehicles. The UK release retained the title, FAREWELL, MY LOVELY.
