About This Item
Paris: Israel Silvestre. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1690. Engraving. Engraving; 24" x19" engraving pasted in a mat of the same laid paper so it apears to be one continuous piece. Light pressed out crease in center. Two small tears to rt margin [see graphic]. Light soiling. Overall quite pleasing. Engraving was made about 1690 by Israel Silvestre, a prolific French draftsman, etcher and print dealer who specialized in topographical views and perspectives of famous buildings. He maintained a large atelier in the galleries of the Louvre, and was appointed a member of the Royal Academy of Painters and Sculptors. This beautifully detailed engraving is dedicated to the fifth Archbishop of Paris, Francois De Harlay, known for his persecution of the Hugenots. As the crest indicates, De Harlay became a cardinal. The unframed engraving is 24" x 19". .
