New York: National Child Labor Committee, 1910. Paperback. Near Fine. Original photograph by Lewis W. Hine, printed utilizing the gelatin-silver method prevalent in the 1880s-1950s, of a child worker shucking oysters. Measures 7 by 4.5 and has been professionally matted. Near fine, with only mild edge wear. Lewis W. Hine (1874-1940) became the photographer for the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC) in 1908. Over the next decade he traveled the country, documenting children at work to aid the NCLC's lobbying efforts against the practice. This photograph was taken for the NCLC, and bears their record number on the verso. An interesting piece of photographic and labor history. Digital images available upon request.
