Number 71 of 200 copies signed by the artist on the colophon page. It is in virtually mint condition. Lawrence’s TORTOISE poems were first published as a group in New York in 1921, then included in the First English edition of BIRDS, BEASTS AND FLOWERS in 1923.

Robinson published a collection of Lawrence's poems, Tortoises, in 1983 through his private Cheloniidae Press. The press also published two exquisite editions of Poe's The Raven, among many other distinguished works, and Robinson is well-known for his interpretations of classic literature and nature, particularly as they intersect.

Masterfully illustrated with seven wood engravings of tortoises by Alan James Robinson, and an introduction by Jefferson Hunter.
