About This Item
London:: Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1980.. Hardbound . BINDING/CONDITION: dark green boards with gilt spine text; a Very Good+ book, with a Near Fine dust jacket.. 8vo (about 9.5 inches tall) . Appendix, reading list, index. Light green endpapers. Description: Features 110 black and white illustrations, two maps, three tables, and one figure illustration. Printed throughout in red and black. This is chronologically this first of a five volume series, Britain before the Conquest. This follows the path of man's occupation of Britain from the scattered pockets of habitation in the earliest Paleolithic period through to his growing domination of the landscape and his capacity to mould his environment evident in the late Bronze Age. As with the other titles in this series, this is concerned with the remains and artifacts, and the social and cultural changes, of the period. The authors survey the great variety of both stone and metal objects, and discuss the most significant sites of prehistory, as well as suggesting those which the public can visit.
