About This Item
Paris: André Paulvé et les Films du Palais Royal, 1950.
A binder containing 18 gelatin silver film stills (8" x 10") of dramatic moments from Jean Cocteau's 1950 film Orphée, his Symbolist/Modernist interpretation of the Greek myth of Orpheus, starring Jean Marais and Juliette Gréco. With one original "lobby card" (8.75" x 10") from the film's French release in 1950. The film stills were likely printed later.
Also included in the binder is a program (8 x 10 ¼) for a 1963 American university tour, sponsored by the French government, of two plays: Cocteau's Orphée as well as Jean Giraudoux's L'Apollon de Bellac. There's also a mimeographed synopsis in English of the two plays. A scarce and unusual collection of French film and theatre ephemera.
CONDITION: The original lobby card is creased at the edges and corners with pushpin holes to the corners. Film stills in Fine condition, although a couple have light creasing in corners. Program has some creases and rubbing. Overall, Very Good or better.
