FIRST EDITION. 12 mo bound in sixes, pp. iv, 378, 136 letterpress advertisements, catalogue etc. Superb large gatefold map, 5 engraved plates, fold-out plan of Liverpool Docks and 12 pp. engraved advertisements, of which 1 fold-out plus illustrations throughout text. Publisher's original olive green finely reeded cloth with gilt titles to spine and arabesque design in blind to boards; primrose yellow endpapers. Spine lightly toned, with minor wear at tips and 1 cm split at lower front joint; boards a little bruised with wear to edge. A slightly shaken copy with weak inner hinges. Map repaired at hinge only, with browned adhesive tape; initials tidily inscribed to front paste-down otherwise contents clean and bright. A Good copy. Scarce, especially with the handsome Map which is usually lacking, which features a large vignette of the "Centaur" locomotive with tender, pulling five carriages.
