An important work of early appreciation of Italian food and wine, by the German author and journalist Hans Barth who had moved to Rome as the correspondent for the Berlner Tageblatt. Barth visits the restaurants, winemakers and cantinas of Italy. The work was published in Italian the following year. Fine, with original illustrated wrappers bound-in. In later cloth binding, decorated paper-covered boards over light brown cloth; gilt-titled blue morocco spine label.
