About This Item

London: Geoffrey Bles. 1966. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Publisher's original terracotta cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Top edge red. A very good copy, the binding firm with a slight lean to the spine. There is a contemporary previous owner's name to the front free endpaper and four margin notes in pen internally. The contents are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and spine toned dustwrapper. The list of books on the rear flap have been faintly ticked off in pen. Not price-clipped (16s on front flap). A collection of Lewis's essays that are concerned in some way with speculative fiction, three of which are previously unpublished in print, along with three short science fiction stories, one previously unpublished, and five chapters from an unfinished novel, also previously unpublished. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.

Synopsis

Of Other Worlds by C.S. Lewis contains a cohesive collection of his revered essays and stories. The work examines the value of creative writing and imaginative exploration, providing commentary on the importance of the whimsical.  C. S. Lewis—the great British writer, scholar, lay theologian, broadcaster, Christian apologist, and bestselling author of Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, The Chronicles of Narnia, and many other beloved classics—presents a well-reasoned case for the importance of story and wonder, elements often ignored by critics of his time. He also discusses his favorite kinds of stories—children’s stories and fantasies—and offers insights into his most famous works, The Chronicles of Narnia and the Space Trilogy.
