Pages are moderately tanned and foxed throughout. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Pink water staining to front and rear free endpapers and pastedowns. Cracking to gutters, with exposed netting. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Heavy crushing and fraying to spine ends. Visible tanning to spine and edges. Severe water staining to all. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Splits to joints. Black marks to front board. Textblock is shaky.

Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Cracking to front hinge with netting exposed. Binding loose. Front free endpaper missing. Dedication to front. Boards have heavy shelf wear with bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. All surfaces tanned and sunned, particularly spine. Gilt lettering to spine is dulled but remains brighter on front. Some additional moderate marks and staining.

Undated edition, but small inscription is dated 1908. Firmly bound, embossed, gilt decorated red cloth boards. Fading, rubbing and marks on cover and spine, foxing on free end papers. Marks on backs of covers. Name of former owner inside.

Spine bands and panel edges somewhat dulled and rubbed as with age. Remains quite well-preserved overall. Physical description: 351 pages, ill. ; 23cm. London: Isbister & Company Limited. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo. 2 volumes. n.d. [1900]. Pp. 351; 351. With over 80 pen and ink sketches by Herbert Railton and others in each volume. Original rib grain red cloth bindings, with gilt lettering within decorative gilt frames on front covers and spines. Spines a bit sunned, but overall in very good condition.

London: Isbister & Co Full Calf Binding with attractive raised bands on spine, together with gilt title plates. Cover has gilt armorial of Mill Hill School. Spine has small piece missing at foot and upper board is loosened, though gatherings are still sound.Marbled endpapers and folio fore-edges. Contents, including excellent line drawings are clean and flat. An attractive copy and scarce in calf binding.
