About This Item

New York: St. Martin's Press, 1985. " Our Lady of The Snows" is the phrase used by Kipling to describe Canada. This story is set in downtown Toronto in a hotel that is both seedy and glamerous. Socialites meet there, but so do petty crooks and gangsters who later turn up dead. The central observer of life at the Bradley House is Gil Gihooley, the barman who has travelled widely to gather material for the writing career he plans. While the story is tough and realistic, it is also enriched by an unmatched sense of the Toronto streets in winter, and by wonderfully sensitive vignettes that remind us of Callaghan's peerless skill as a short-story writer. Very small usage of 'white-out' on ffep. Illustrated price-intact dust jacket.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
