About This Item

n.p., 1943. Pamphlet. 10p. staplebound pamphlet, evenly toned, very good. C-0799. Reprint of an article from Asia and the Americas, October, 1943, in which Morimitsu, then stationed in Mississippi with the 442nd, discusses the Americanization of younger Japanese Americans and their cultural disconnect with members of older generations like his parents, who were in an internment camp at the time of writing. Discusses the hard work Issei devoted to agriculture and the creation of a better life for their children in the United States. "The remaining years can lie nowhere for them but in America. For this is their home. This is their children's home. And upon their children, the Nisei, rest the long-hoped-for dreams of the Issei, the pioneers who came to America seeking wealth, adventure, education, and found instead sweat, a home and a Japanese-American family." No publisher is given, but pamphlets from this C-numbered series were printed by the US government.
