Description:
London: Methuen & Co, 1927. 1st ed. hardcover. Good. numerous photos (including frontis), folding map, index, xvi, 254p. Original blue cloth. 23cm. Backstrip faded. Ends of backstrip rubbed with modest loss of cloth. Contents sound and clean with only modest age-toning. No jacket. Vivienne, only in her mid-twenties, accompanied her father on an African hunting trip, mostly through portions of Kenya and Uganda, whose object was to collect African animals for the Berne Museum. Vivienne's father was the hunter. She was along to do the taxidermy and serve as camp nurse. After her father is mauled and killed by a wounded lion, she takes over her father's extensive hunting duties and successfully completes the trip. Killing big game animals was still in vogue and she and her father were generally quite successful in collecting the animals for which they were licensed. The major failure seems to have been failing to get a gorilla when in the Virunga Mountains. Pages 243-249 contain a list of the animals collected. Read More
