Privately printed, Oxford, for presentation to members of the Roxburghe Club, first edition, 1908. Folio, Roxburghe maroon morocco spine and boards, 29 cm, top edge gilt, remainder untrimmed title printed in red and black,. [4], xvi pp, 55 monochrome photographic plates on Japanese vellum with facing transcriptions. Includes an introduction by William, earl of Carysfort and "A series of drawings representing scenes or 'pagents' in the life of the earl ... As to the origin of the manuscript ... there has been a persistent tradition that its author was John Rous ... there is very little to connect it with Rous, and ... while we may hesitate to accept him as the author even of the text, we have no hesitation whatever in pronouncing the drawings not to be his handiwork at all."- Introduction. Barker comments: "The Pageants of Richard Beauchamp, presented to the Club by the Earl of Carysfort in 1908, represents another turning point in the history of the Club. It was printed, both the text and the admirable sanguigno collotypes, by the Oxford University Press, and it inaugurated associations with both the Oxford and Cambridge university presses that were to continue throughout the century.
