Diagrams! Mostly looms, washing and sewing machines, grain drills and threshers, wrenches... but also full-body life preservers. No joke. 1872.

Articles by L. O. Cheever (some autobiographical) about the Annie Wittenmyer Home in Davenport for orphans of soldiers. Mrs. Wittenmyer had been a tireless advocate for health needs of returning soldiers from the Civil War as well as for education, and she was instrumental in founding and expanding the first facility, though she did not live to see it continue through the first world war and beyond.
