California (?): n.p., 1920. Stiff card. Near fine. Silver gelatin print panorama, 6 by 28½ inches depicting an oil field in rolling hills with wooden derricks, simple single-armed telephone poles, dirt streets and little vegetation. Modernly framed and glazed in a simple wooden frame. The photograph has been inspected out of frame. It is a silver gelatin print on thick paper of the type in use from the 1880's, and with no fibers visible under magnification. There is grain in the picture and a typlically glossy finish. The location remains unidentified, but it is likely in California and possibly an early picture of the Kettleman Hills Oil Field in Bakersfield or Signal Hill field in Southern California, both of which started up in the 1920's. The photograph has been laminated, presumably by the framer, to a sturdy foam board, We are not able to determine if this print dates form the mid 1920's, the date of the photograph, or a little later.
