Papaver Orientale. Eastern Poppy.

Botanic Garden, Lambeth Marsh.: W. Curtis.. [ 1788].. Hand-colored botanical engraving on laid paper 9 x 5 ¼ inches, Volume 2 plate 57, with text sheet. The plant is native to mountainous regions of Turkey and Iran. On the Smithsonian Libraries website they write: "Unlike the opium poppy, the Eastern poppy is not useful for making sleep-inducing opiates, and its seeds are not eaten. Instead, the Eastern poppy is a decorative garden plant that tends to come in shades of orange, red, pink, or white." Print is in very good clean condition. .
