Anchorage, AK: Karen Stahlecker, 1995. First Edition. Paperback. Like New. Miniature Book. 2 x 1 9/16 inches. Unpaginated. [12] pp. Text consists of 6 bifolia in a gathering, stitched together, the first bifold has printed text explaining this project and the other 5 bifolia are paper samples of hand-made papers by the artist; text, clean, unmarked. Stiff plain paper wrappers with a printed handmade paper covering; binding square and tight. SA1019-002. Fine. NO LIMITATION STATED, printed as a Miniature Book Society Keepsake, Conclave XIII in Pasadena, CA, August 1995. In the text Stahlecker remarks: "I pursue the Japanese papermaking tradition. The product is often strong but delicate, translucent and versatile. Bringing paper into being from plant material is part of the allure for me. And a particular intent in plants as materials, metaphors, shapes, forms and colors, in architecture, gardens, food, medicine, textiles and wilderness is the other facet of my equation." REFERENCE: Bradbury, 20th-Century U.S. Miniature Books, No. 2794.

Description:
Fresno, CA: Karen Stahlecker, 1995. Unique. Hardcover. Fine. Unique. Hardcover. Limited ed. of 55 unique, but related pieces in this series. "Between covers of kozo lace paper, laminated to a flax and linen base sheet, rests a playful, accordion-folded text. This 'pulp painting' (pigmented pulps manipulated during formation of the paper) incorporates bright colors and a heart motif across the ten pages. Gampi and kozo fibers, both natural and with artists' pigments, were used to create this one-of-a-kind art work."--Slipcase. "This piece can be displayed by opening covers to a distance of 14" to 18" and standing the form up on a flat surface. It is, in fact, a tiny paper screen disguised as a book. Depending on the light source, it will reflect and transmit available light."--Slipcase. Tight, bright, and unmarred. Handmade multicolor paper boards, accordion fold, handmade multicolored paper with hearts, slipcase. 66x67mm. 8pp.
